A host of Broadway and UK stage vets will star in Tooting Arts Club's upcoming New York City revival of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s Sweeney Todd, set to run at the Barrow Street Theatre beginning February 14.

The production comes to Manhattan following sold-out runs in London where the show debuted in Harrington’s Pie and Mash Shop, the oldest continuously operating pie shop in Britain. Directed by Bill Buckhurst, the working pie-shop environment will be re-created at the Barrow Street.

The original stars of the London mounting, Jeremy Secomb (as Sweeney Todd), Siobhán McCarthy (as Mrs. Lovett), Duncan Smith (as Judge Turpin) and Joseph Taylor (as Tobias), will reprise their performances for New York audiences. They will be joined by Broadway vets Matt Doyle (as Anthony), Alex Finke (as Johanna), Betsy Morgan (as Pirelli and the Beggar Woman), and Brad Oscar (as The Beadle). Colin Anderson, Liz Pearce and Monet Sabel complete the cast.

The production features set and costume designs by Simon Kenny, music supervision and arrangement by Benjamin Cox, music direction by Matt Aument, lighting design by Amy Mae Smith, and sound design by Matt Stine.

With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Hugh Wheeler, Sweeney Todd first opened on Broadway at the Uris Theatre (now the Gershwin) in 1979 under Harold Prince's direction. The show received eight Tony Awards and 11 Drama Desk Awards that year and has since seen two Broadway revivals. The musical tells the story of a barber who seeks vengeance on what he sees as a merciless world by murdering his customers and, with the help of his landlady, baking their bodies into meat pies.

The upcoming production is produced by Rachel Edwards, Jenny Gersten, Seaview Productions, and Nate Koch, Executive Producer, in association with Barrow Street Theatre.
