Manhattan Theatre Club is set to produce the world premiere of The Ruins of Civilization, a new play written by Penelope Skinner (The Village Bike) and directed by Leah C. Gardiner (Born Bad). This production will be presented in spring 2016 as part of MTC’s the Studio at Stage II – Harold and Mimi Steinberg New Play series.

In The Ruins of Civilization, it's sometime in the future, and Dolores and Silver are living their married life within the constraints and norms of a new world order. In an act of what seems like pure generosity, Dolores secretly opens their home to a stranger in need.

Casting, creative team, and additional listings information for The Ruins of Civilization will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Studio at Stage II is an initiative launched in 2012 with the world premiere of Murder Ballad, the rock musical by Julia Jordan and Juliana Nash. It has continued with the premieres of Choir Boy by Tarell Alvin McCraney, Taking Care of Baby by Dennis Kelly, The Lion by Benjamin Scheuer, By the Water by Sharyn Rothstein, and Heisenberg by Simon Stephens. On November 10, the world premiere of Important Hats of the Twentieth Century, a new comedy by Nick Jones, will begin previews as part of the season.
