Five-time Tony nominee Jan Maxwell will star in her sixth collaboration with the theater troupe Potomac Theatre Project this summer, in a revival of Howard Barker's Scenes From an Execution. Previews begin July 7 at Atlantic Stage 2, with opening night set for July 15. The run concludes August 9.

Scenes From an Execution deals with the eternally fractious and complex relationship between the artist and the state. Galactia, a 15th-century Venetian painter, is commissioned by the State of Venice to portray the Battle of Lepanto, a naval battle described as "the greatest triumph of Venetian history." However, her 1,000 square feet of canvas contains quite a different interpretation. Thus the battle over truth, freedom, and responsibility is engaged.

The cast also includes Jan Maxwell, Bill Army, David Barlow, Alex Draper, Pamela J. Gray, Adam Ludwig, Jonathan Tindle, Steven Dykes, Kean Haunt, Nicholas Hemerling, Meghan Leathers, Melissa MacDonald. and Lana Meyer. The production team includes Hallie Zieselman (set design), Mark Evancho (lighting design), Mira Veikley (costume design), and Cormac Bluestone (sound design). Richard Romagnoli directs.

Also on PTP's bill this summer is a double bill of Barker's Judith: A Parting From the Body, directed by Romagnoli, and Caryl Churchill’s Vinegar Tom, directed by Cheryl Faraone. Previews begin on July 7 and openings begin on July 14. The cast for Judith includes Alex Draper, Pamela J. Gray, and Kathryn Kates. Vinegar Tom will feature Tara Giordano, Bill Army, Kathleen Wise, Nesba Crenshaw, Steven Dykes, Lucy Faust, Patricia Buckley, Chelsea Melone, Caitlyn Meagher, Liana Barron, Caitlin Duffy, and Joelle Mendoza-Etchart.
