First Look at York Theatre Company's Milk and Honey

Directed by Michael Unger, the Musical in Mufti production will run through February 5.

York Theare Company's long-standing Musical in Mufti series opened its winter season last night with Milk and Honey by Don Appell (book) and Jerry Herman (music and lyrics). Under the direction of Michael Unger, performances began January 28 and are scheduled to continue through February 5.

Milk and Honey centers on the romance between two Americans in Israel — a lonely widow on tour and an unhappily married man visiting his daughter. Set against the backdrop of Israel's struggle for recognition as an independent nation, Milk and Honey is a tale of love, optimism, and second chances.

The cast features Mark Delavan (Tosca), Alix Korey (Fiddler on the Roof), Anne Runolfsson (The Phantom of the Opera), Ari Axelrod (Les Misérables), Abby Goldfarb (Fiddler on the Roof), Jacob Heimer (Soul Doctor), and Jessica Fontana (Cinderella). They are joined by Joy Hermalyn (Candide), Joanne Lessner (Fermat’s Last Tango), John Little (Boardwalk Empire), Marcy DeGonge Manfredi (The Phantom of the Opera), and Perry Sherman (Fun Home).

York Theatre Company’s Musicals in Mufti series, now in its 22nd year, performs musical gems of the past in a simply-staged, book-in-hand concert format. Following Milk and Honey, the season will continue with productions of Berlin to Broadway With Kurt Weill: A Musical Voyage and Dear World.
