Carrie Compere, recently seen on Broadway as Sofia in The Color Purple, will complete the cast of The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical, a new show set to play March 23 to May 6 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. Opening night is scheduled for April 4.

In addition to previously announced star Chris McCarrell (Les Misérables), who takes on the title role, the cast also includes Jelani Alladin, Sarah Beth Pfeifer (Legally Blonde: The Musical national tour), Jonathan Raviv (The Band's Visit), George Salazar (Godspell), and Kristin Stokes (Fly by Night).

Written by Joe Tracz (Netflix's Series of Unfortunate Events) and Rob Rokicki (Strange Tails), and directed by Stephen Brackett (Buyer & Cellar), The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is being presented by Theatreworks NYC in arrangement with Rick Riordan and the Gallt & Zacker Literary Agency.

The show was introduced to New York City by Theatreworks USA in 2014 as part of its free-theater series, and has toured the country as a one-hour version with a smaller cast. This brand-new production will feature a new score, an updated, expanded script including a second act, a larger cast, and a live band.

Based on Rick Riordan's best-selling Disney-Hyperion novel The Lightning Thief, the musical is described as follows: "Percy Jackson has newly discovered powers he can't control, monsters on his trail, and he is on a quest to find Zeus's lightning bolt and prevent a war between the Greek gods. "Normal" is a myth when you're a demigod…The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is an action-packed theatrical adventure that will rock your world."

Wiley DeWeese will serve as musical director, with orchestrations by Wiley DeWeese and Rob Rokicki, choreography by Patrick McCollum, and fight direction by Rod Kinter. The creative team also includes David Lander (lighting design), Lee Savage (set design), Sydney Maresca (costume design), and Ryan Rumery (sound design).
