Northern Manhattan’s UP Theater Company has announced casting for the world premiere of Detained, written by Rose-Mary Harrington (Six Seconds, There Is No Dash), and directed by Nancy Robillard. Detained will begin run from April 11-28 at the Garret at Fort Washington Collegiate.

Detained will star Julia Cavagna, Ken Dillon, Laura Fois, Robert S. Gregory, Beau McGhee, Nina Mehta, Nercido Mota, Natalia Plaza, and Thomas Vorsteg. The creative team includes set designer Duane Pagano, lighting designer Diana Duecker, sound designer David Margolin Lawson, costume designer Brenna McShane, and stage manager Lisa Stafford.

In Detained, Doug and Maria, teenagers from different lands, forge an alliance to help each other’s families survive incarceration and escape deportation. In the face of oppression and humiliation, the teenagers unite against a deeply fractured system in their fight for freedom.
