Signature Theatre announced the casts for F**king A and In the Blood, two plays by Suzan-Lori Parks inspired by Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter that will be presented at Pershing Square Signature Center together as The Red Letter Plays.

Directed by Jo Bonney, F**king A will include J. Cameron Barnett (The Emperor Jones), Tony nominee Brandon Victor Dixon (Hamilton), Ben Horner (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time), Joaquina Kalukango (The Color Purple), Tony nominee Marc Kudisch (The Wayside Motor Inn), Emmy and Golden Globe winner Christine Lahti (TV's Chicago Hope), Ruibo Qian (Bull in a China Shop), Drama Desk nominee Elizabeth Stanley (On the Town), and Raphael Nash Thompson (Pericles).

In F**king A, "Hester Smith, the revered and reviled local abortionist, hatches a plan to buy her jailed son’s freedom — and nothing will deter Hester from her quest. In this wild-eyed blend of story and song, Hester’s branded letter A becomes a provocative emblem of vengeance, violence, and sacrifice." It will run from August 22-October 1, with opening night on September 11.

Directed by Sarah Benson, In the Blood will feature Jocelyn Bioh (Everybody), Michael Braun (Everybody), Obie winner Russell G. Jones (Father Comes Home From the Wars), Ana Reeder (When It’s You), Tony nominee and Drama Desk winner Saycon Sengbloh (Eclipsed), and Tony winner Frank Wood (Angels in America).

In In the Blood, "Hester La Negrita is a penniless mother of five condemned by the men who love her. Hester turns to former lovers, friends, and the institutions meant to support her, only to be spurned by them all with devastating consequences." It will run from August 9-October 8, with opening night on September 17.
