Atlantic Theater Company Announces Asian American Mixfest

New free reading festival will highlight work of Asian-American playwrights.

The Atlantic Theater Company announced a new festival, Asian American Mixfest, that will present a free series of readings of plays by Asian-American playwrights. The festival is coproduced by playwrights Lloyd Suh and Qui Nguyen, both of whom have works featured in the lineup. The festival will run August 9-17 at Atlantic Stage 2.

Among the full-length plays being publicly read are House of Joy, written by Madhuri Shekar and directed by Saheem Ali; Nomad Hotel, written by Carla Ching and directed by Ed Sylvanus Iskandar; Franklinland, written by Lloyd Suh and directed by Ralph B. Peña; War Is F**king Awesome, written by Qui Nguyen and directed by Robert Ross Parker; and A Power Play; or Whats-Its-Name, written by A. Rey Pamatmat and directed by May Adrales.

In addition, Atlantic Theater Company has commissioned Jessica Huang, Leah Nanako Winkler and Jiehae Park to create one-act plays, which will be presented on August 11 alongside a short play by Rajiv Joseph (Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo).
