(© Joseph Marzullo/Retna) | Mercedes Ruehl will play sculptor Louise Nevelson in the Signature Theatre's production of Edward Albee's Occupant, May 6-June 29. The production, which will officially open on May 29, will be directed by Pam MacKinnon. Additional casting and creative team will be announced at a later date.
Originally produced at Signature in 2002 in a limited engagement, with the late Anne Bancroft in the lead, the play is a portrait of Nevelson and a quest to capture a charismatic and complex artist and persona.
Ruehl won the Tony Award for Lost in Yonkers and last appeared on Broadway in Albee's The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia? She won the Academy Award for The Fisher King; her other film credits include Big and Married to the Mob.
