James Naughton to Star in Irish Rep's The Master Builder

James Naughton will star in Irish Repertory Theatre's world premiere of Frank McGuinness' adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's The Master Builder, October 10-November 30. The production, which will open officially on October 23, will be directed by Ciaran O'Reilly.

In the play, Halvard Solness, a successful architect and builder in a small Norwegian town has mercilessly dominated his employees and his wife, Aline. Hilde Wangel, a vivacious young woman arrives unannounced. She has idolized Solness for ten years, since in the early stages of his career when he made her a promise while visiting her town. Now, she has come to reap what he has sown.

The cast will also include Charlotte Parry, Letitia Lange, Kristin Griffith, Daniel Cameron Talbott, Herb Foster, and Doug Stender.

Naughton won Tony awards for his performances in Chicago and City of Angels. Additional Broadway credits include Democracy, Four Baboons Adoring the Sun, Whose Life Is It Anyway?, and Prymate.

McGuiness has adapted many of Ibsen's plays, including A Doll's House, Hedda Gabler, and Rosmersholm. His many original works include Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme, Someone Who'll Watch Over Me, and There Came a Gypsy Riding.
