Peter Brook to Direct The Grand Inquisitor; TFANA and NYTW Seasons Announced

Acclaimed director Peter Brook will helm C.I.C.T./ Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord's production of The Grand Inquisitor, adapted by Marie-Hélene Estienne from The Brothers Karamazov. The New York premiere will be co-presented by Theatre for a New Audience and New York Theatre Workshop, October 22-November 23, and will star Bruce Myers in the title role.

The Grand Inquisitor takes place in Seville during the Inquisition. Christ returns to the world of man in human form, and the Grand Inquisitor has him imprisoned.

Brook has directed over 70 productions in London, Paris, and New York. His notable productions include Marat/Sade, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and The Mahabharata.

Theatre for a New Audience's 2008-2009 season will also include the New York premiere of Chair by Edward Bond, directed by Robert Woodruff, December 5-28, and spring productions of Hamlet featuring Christian Camargo and Othello directed by Arin Arbus. All three works will perform at The Duke on 42nd Street.

New York Theatre Workshop's season will also include Beast by Michael Weller, directed by Jo Bonney, August 29-October 12 and in the spring of 2009 Things of Dry Hours by Naomi Wallace, directed by Ruben Santiago-Hudson. NYTW will also present the inaugural season of its Off Again musical series, concert versions of notable off-Broadway musicals. Shows under consideration for the series include Promenade (1969), written by Maria Irene Fornes and composed by Al Carmines; Iphigenia in Concert by Peter Link, directed by Annie Dorsen; and The Waves, written by Lisa Peterson (based on Virginia Woolf's novel) and composed by David Bucknam.
