TheatreWorks/USA will present a specially revised version of the Broadway musical Seussical as its free summer offering, July 16-August 17 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. The production, which will open officially on July 19, will be directed and choreographed by Marcia Milgrom Dodge.

Based on the works of children's author Theodore Geisel, a.k.a. Dr. Seuss, Seussical was co-conceived by Eric Idle, Stephen Flaherty, and Lynn Ahrens; the latter two wrote the show's book and score. This 90-minute one-act version is geared specifically for young audiences.

The show will feature Ebony Marshall as Sour Kangaroo, Shorey Walker as The Cat in the Hat, Michael Wartella as Jojo, Karen Weinberg as Gertrude McFuzz, and Leigh Ann Larkin as Mayzie La Bird. Nikka Graff Lanzarone, Amelia Morgan-Rothschild and Ellen Zolezzi play the Bird Girls, and Willie Lee-Williams, Ben Tostado and Josh Walden are the Wickersham Brothers. Casting for the role of Horton the Elephant will be announced soon.

Seussical features scenic design by Narelle Sissons, costume design by Tracy Christensen, lighting design by Matthew Richards, sound design by Eric Shim, and puppet design by Eric Wright. Dodge's previous directorial credits include The Who's Tommy, Cookin', Closer Than Ever, and The Music Man.

Tony Award winner Cynthia Nixon will serve as honorary chair of this year's Free Summer Theatre Program; more than 18,000 free tickets will be distributed this summer to Seussical.
