Tina Chen and Larry Pine will star in The Mirror Repertory Company's production of John Colton's The Shanghai Gesture, to run April 21-May 17 at the Julia Miles Theatre. The production will be directed by Robert Kalfin. Additional casting will be announced shortly.

Written in 1918 and last produced on Broadway in 1926, the play takes place in China, where Mother Goddam -- a Manchu princess who was sold into sex slavery but who has risen to great power by running an elegant brothel -- is having a dinner party for European society, where many secrets are eventually revealed.

The creative team includes Michael Anania (sets), Gail Cooper Hecht (costumes), Paul Hudson (lighting), and Margaret Pine (sound and music composition). Kalfin's may credits include Strider, Happy End, and Yentl.
