Tony nominee Jan Maxwell will star in Anton Dudley's Substitution, presented by The Playwrights Realm at Soho Playhouse, April 26-May 17, with an opening set for May 4. Katherine Kovner will direct.

In the play, Calvin's Mom is coping with the death of her teenage son as best as she can. When a substitute teacher challenges everything she thinks she knows about Calvin, their volatile bond creates a complex unfolding of revelations.

The cast will also include Kieran Campion, Brandon Espinoza, and Shana Dowdeswell. The creative team will include Tom Gleeson (set), Theresa Squire (costumes), Jeff Croiter (lighting) and Jill BC DuBoff (sound).

Maxwell received Tony nominations for Coram Boy and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and won a Drama Desk Award for the latter. Her other Broadway credits include Sixteen Wounded, Match, The Dinner Party, The Sound of Music, and A Doll's House.

Dudley's previous plays include Getting Home, Slag Heap and Circumvention. He is the recipient of NYU's Goldberg Award for Best Play and the John Golden Prize in Playwriting.
