Lincoln Center to Revive Basil Twist's Petrushka

Basil Twist's Petrushka
Petrushka centers around the titular tragic clown, who comes alive as nine hidden puppeteers combine Czech and Japanese puppetry techniques in a tour de force of puppet wizardry. Stravinsky's score will be performed by sisters Julia and Irina Elkina in the two-piano version. The duo opens the program with Stravinsky's Sonata for Two Pianos. Petrushka was commissioned by Great Performers and had its world premiere at Lincoln Center in May 2001.
Twist is best known as the creator of the award-winning Symphonie Fantastique. He previously staged the opera La Bella Dormemte Nel Bosco for the Lincoln Center Festival. Additional works include The Araneidae Show, Tell Tale, and Dogugaeshi.
