About This Show

San Francisco’s Smuin Ballet brings Dancin’ with Gershwin to New York for one week only. Tony Award-winner Michael Smiun presents this exuberantly sexy tribute to the masters of song. Blending ballet with Broadway pizzazz, the piece is set to the most cherished Gershwin classics: Lena Horne’s “Someone to Watch Over Me,” Nat King Cole’s “Our Love is Here to Stay,” Marilyn Monroe’s “Do It Again,” and more. The program also features Stabat Mater, Smuin’s powerful meditation on the loss experienced on September 11, 2001.

Smuin Ballet has become known for dance theatre at its best, and is a celebrated presence on the national dance stage. Passionate and playful, sensual and theatrical, Smuin Ballet is recognized as “one of this country’s most entertaining, original ballet troupes” (Dance Magazine). With its innovative and accessible repertory and broad emotional and stylistic range, the San Francisco Chronicle calls Smuin Ballet performances “the hottest ticket in town.”
