About This Show

Seasons of Migration: Classical Music and Dance from Cambodia atThe Joyce Theater
Imagine that heavenly spirits have come to earth to live among humans. How shocking and transformative might their experience be? The answers lie in the poignant new work Seasons of Migration, performed by dancers and musicians of the Royal University of Fine Arts, Phnom Penh.
Join them as they explore the aspirations and trials of contemporary immigrants through mythical storytelling and classical Cambodian dance technique. This highly stylized dance form, noted for its intricate hand gestures and shimmering costumes, is also exquisitely rendered in the traditional Cambodian dance drama Ream Eyso & Moni Mekhala (The God of Thunder and the Goddess of Lightning).
Returning to The Joyce after its previous sold out season, this dazzling company renders contemporary ideas timeless and the ancient utterly modern.
