About This Show

Give him any piece of music, and choreographer Sean Curran will find a new take. For instance, “Art/Song/Dance,” one of the dances that he presents as part of Sean Curran Company’s Joyce Theater season, is danced to a series of 20th century American poems set to original music by Ricky Ian Gordon, performed live by Gordon and four singers. And then there is “Sonata,” set to Janecek’s “Sonata for Violin and Piano,” which evokes the music’s sense of community to recall the tragedy of 9/11. A third highlight of the season is “Companion Dances,” a duet both performed and choreographed by Curran and long-time company member Heather Waldon-Arnold and set to rock music by Young Marble Giants, Radiohead, Solex, and Jesse Manno.
