$50.00; $20.00 students
The York Theatre Company, in association with Allen D. Petersen, presents the premiere of Max Morath: Ragtime and Again, an evening with America’s great ragtime pianist/singer, raconteur and musical historian. With piano and song, Max Morath weaves stories about America’s first popular music — Ragtime. Using songs by Scott Joplin, Eubie Blake, Hoagy Carmichael, George Gershwin and Irvin Berlin, Morath carries his audience to another time and place in America’s musical life. Songs include Eubie Blake’s “Charleston Rag”; Irving Berlin’s “Alexander’s Ragtime” and, “Everything in America is Ragtime” and “I Love A Piano”; Scott Joplin’s “Elite Syncopations,” “Sweet Syncopations” and “Plays Some Rags”; Hoagy Carmichael’s “Hong Kong Blues” and “Rockin’ Chair”; George Gershwin’s “The Real American Folk Song” and “Rialto Ripples” among many others.
