About This Show

The Public Theater opens its 2000-2001 season with the world premiere of Kit Marlowe by David Grimm. The play is a thrilling excursion into the dark, dangerous underworld of Elizabethan England. It explores the life and times of playwright Christopher Marlowe, a rival to Shakespeare and the dramatist of Doctor Faustus, Edward II, and The Jew of Malta. His brief, tragic life was illuminated by his success as a playwright, his sexual indiscretions, and his escapades as a spy in the turbulent court of Queen Elizabeth I. Brian Kulick directs this raw, contemporary take on a sweeping historical pageant.
