About This Show

“No genre sets a better test of a theater company’s inventiveness, esprit de corps and sense of timing than farce. Mr. Woo is developing a keen appreciation of this fine art.” -D. J. R. Bruckner, New York Times
Told through the perspective of a blind African?American musician, a young Asian-American and his Caucasian girlfriend visit China to rediscover his cultural roots. He is kidnapped for espionage purposes and somehow intersects with Ricky Nelson, Giggles the Clown, and a beaver named Yuri. Forbidden City Blues, by Alexander Woo, presents a clever, skewed view of China, America, relationships therein and points in between. Pan Asian Repertory Theatre presents this culture-clash comedy for the new millennium as part of its 25th season. Ron Nakahara directs.
