About This Show

The Castillo Theatre’s production of Explosion of a Memory/Description of a Picture, Heiner Müller’s dark masterpiece on the historic failings of the 20th century, is given a dose of razzle-dazzle in Fred Newman’s avant-garde musical adaptation of the 10 page, one-sentence play. This environmental production is a living art installation. Castillo’s two-year Müller festival has led to the birth of a new genre in American theater, the avant garde musical: part Kurt Weill, part Vaudeville, all American.

The production features music by Fred Newman, musical direction by David Truskinoff, and sets by Sheila Goloborotko.
