Dancing On Nails” is a sweet and comic play about the kind of people we grew up around… the decent, blunt, and funny people who were always there back when we lived in neighborhoods.

Sam Heisler is an ordinary storekeeper. He’s a child of immigrants, and he grew up in the Bronx back in the day. Sam is a simple man, an unsophisticated fellow who always says just what’s on his mind. He’s practical and conservative and always plays it safe… but then one day he takes a chance. And that’s how the trouble starts.

Sam’s cousin Rose works with him in the hardware store. She runs the office for him. All she wants is to have a child, but it’s not working out for her, so she decides that she and her husband should adopt. And that’s how the trouble starts.

Rose’s husband Joe is a cornet-playing cab driver whose big dream is to join Benny Goodman’s band. But his dreams run smack up against his wife’s and Sam’s. And that’s how the trouble starts.

Natalie helps her grandmother pay the rent by scrubbing down a bar and working in a hardware store, all the while thinking about singing opera on the stage of the Metropolitan. Her troubles started before she was even born.

And then there’s Luba, the impossible yenta. Luba never has any trouble, because she knows all the answers.
