About This Show

Project Shaw, the wildly popular series determined to perform all of George Bernard Shaw’s 50 plays, continues with Candida. Blair Brown stars in the title role.

Candida is a light comedy by playwright G. Bernard Shaw from 1898. Like most of Shaw’s plays, it questions Victorian notions of women’s rights, sexuality, societal expectations for formalized relationships (including marriage), capitalism and religion. All with a satirical wink, Shaw covers just about all controversial topics allowing for some surprisingly heated dialogue. At the heart of the story is a happily married couple, challenged by the passions of a young poet.

In addition to Brown, the reading also features Matt Cavanaugh, Daniel Jenkins, Annie Golden, and Ed Dixon. David Staller directs.
