Cotton Blossom Musicals and Theatre@St.Clement’s Church presents this classic musical by Yip Harburg and Harold Arlen, the songwriting team for The Wizard of Oz. The Book is by Sig Herzig and Fred Saidy. Bloomer Girl focuses on the women’s rights movement during the 1860s, the importance of balancing personal connection with political passion, and the burgeoning civil rights movement. Dolly Bloomer is the publisher of The Lily, an early feminist and abolitionist publication. She and her niece lead an attempt to eradicate the wearing of hoopskirts in favor of the much less confining and inhibiting bloomers. Along the way, the women also help an escaped slave to freedom. Songs include “The Eagle and Me,” “Right as the Rain,” and “It Was Good Enough for Grandma (But It Ain’t Good Enough for Us).”
