About This Show

The Peccadillo Theater Company presents a staged reading of All God’s Chillun Got Wings, a play with music by Eugene O’Neill, diirected by Dan Wackerman.

The play tells the story of Ella Downey and Jim Harris, a white woman
and a black man who fall in love amid the poverty and racism of Manhattan’s notorious Five Points district. Musical director Mark Janas and director Dan Wackerman expand upon O’Neill’s use of period music with the addition of several standards from the early days of Tin Pan Alley along with the earthy blues and soaring spirituals of The Bowery, ca. 1905. An inter-racial chorus of gangsters
and pimps, prostitutes and con men highlight O’Neill’s concern with the effect of public attitudes and beliefs on personal relationships.
