WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Artspower's original production of Laura Ingalls Wilder: Growing Up On the Prairie, chronicles the adventures of author-to-be Laura Ingalls Wilder and the Ingalls family as they travel across the Midwest in a covered wagon searching for a place to call home. The play, written and directed by Greg Gunning with original music by Richard DeRosa, is based on Wilder's own childhood experiences, immortalized by the popular television show Little House on the Prairie. Set in the 1870's and 1880's, the Ingalls family travels tough terrain as they pass through Wisconsin, Kansas, Minnesotra, Iowa, and Missouri. Building new homes along the way, they also encounter swarms of grasshoppers, fight illness, and welcome a new baby.
