Anna is a choreographer. She shares a Manhattan loft with two roommates, Robby her friend and dance collaborator and Larry a world-weary, caustically funny, advertising executive. At the open, Robby has been killed in a freak boating accident and Anna has just returned from the funeral. She is devastated and lost. Soon her wealthy boyfriend Burton - a sci-fi screenwriter whose persistent proposals of marriage Anna finds unable to accept - enters and attempts to comfort her in his own unique way. Then, with a sudden, unexpected explosiveness, Robby's older brother Pale bursts onto the scene. He has come to collect his brother's belongings -- but stays on to transform the action of the play and the lives of those in it.
