Paper Mill Playhouse Artistic Director Mark S. Hoebee and his partner of 28 years, Larry Elardo, married on December 3, following the September 27 Superior Court ruling by Judge Mary Jacobson granting New Jersey same-sex couples the right to marry. The couple fittingly tied the knot in the Paper Mill Playhouse Gallery, marking the first same-sex wedding to be performed in Millburn, New Jersey. The ceremony was officiated by Millburn Mayor Sandra Haimoff.

Hoebee and Elardo share two children — Stephen, 15, and Ashley, 11 — both of whom were present at the ceremony. In a statement from Paper Mill Playhouse, Hoebee said, “It is meaningful for us — first, to be officially married in the state where we live and to have our relationship and family recognized legally, and second, to have the ceremony in a place that we consider home to us.”
