Mike McGowan will play French planter Emile de Becque in Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific, directed by Rob Ruggiero, at the Paper Mill Playhouse.

Mike McGowan will join the cast of Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific, directed by Rob Ruggiero, at Millburn, New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse. He replaces Jason Howard, who was previously announced in the leading role of Emile de Becque.

McGowan returns to Paper Mill Playhouse after having previously appeared in the theater's productions of Kiss Me, Kate and Master Class. His past Broadway credits include Ragtime, Grease, The Apple Tree, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, and The Producers.

Starring opposite McGowan will be Erin Mackey (Chaplin) in the role of Nellie Forbush, a U.S. Navy nurse from Little Rock, Arkansas, who falls in love with the French planter while she is stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. The primary cast also features Tally Sessions as Luther Billis, Doug Carpenter as Lt. Joe Cable, Jessica Wu as Liat, and Loretta Ables Sayre, who reprises her Tony-nominated performance as Bloody Mary.

Performances begin April 9 in advance of an April 13 opening and will run through May 4.
