Playwright Winnie Holzman, the Tony-nominated book writer for Broadway's hit musical Wicked, comes to New Brunswick, New Jersey's George Street Playhouse with her new play, One of Your Biggest Fans, which she penned with her husband, actor Paul Dooley. Dooley is best known as "America's Dad," having taken on a number of paternal roles in films such as Breaking Away, Sixteen Candles, and Hairspray.
Holzman and Dooley, both of whom are authors and actors, premiered their play at the Odyssey Theatre in West Los Angeles in April 2013 under the title Assisted Living. The updated play will be performed at George Street Playhouse from January 28-February 23.
Directed by Larry Biederman, One of Your Biggest Fans charts the connections between four very different characters: Frank, a soap-opera star facing an uncertain future; Emily, his former makeup artist and longtime girlfriend; Edgar, a crotchety man who feels abandoned in his assisted-living facility; and Heather, Edgar's unfulfilled, unmarried daughter and Frank's biggest fan.
The creative team features scenic design by James Youmans, costume design by Esther Arroyo, and lighting design by David Lander. Ted Crimy will augment Bob Blackburn's original sound design.
