Ivan Dixon Dies at Age 76

Actor Ivan Dixon died Sunday at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte after a hemorrhage, according to published reports. He had suffered complications from kidney failure. Dixon was 76 years old.

Dixon began his acting career in the late 1950s and was best known for his role as POW Kinchloe in TV’s Hogan’s Heroes. His Broadway credits include William Saroyan’s 1957 The Cave Dwellers and Lorraine Hansberry’s original production of A Raisin in the Sun. His film credits include Nothing But a Man, and he also directed directed many television shows.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Berlie Dixon, his daughter Doris Nomathande Dixon, and son Alan Kimara Dixon.
