It has just been announced that the Roundabout Theatre Company’s Tony Award-winning Broadway revival of Nine will close on Sunday, December 14 instead of the originally announced date of January 4. At the time of its closing, the show will have played 23 previews and 285 regular performances at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre.

This production of the musical, which is based on Federico Fellini’s and features a score by Maury Yeston and a book by Arthur Kopit, was directed by David Leveaux and choreographed by Jonathan Butterell. It has scenic design by Scott Pask, costume design by Vicki Mortimer, and lighting design by Brian MacDevitt. Nine currently stars John Stamos, Eartha Kitt, Sara Gettelfinger, and Rebecca Luker in roles first played in the revival by Antonio Banderas, Chita Rivera, Jane Krakowski, and Laura Benanti. Of the opening night leads, only Mary Stuart Masterson continues in the show.

In his TheaterMania review of the production, Marc Miller wrote: “What a startling surprise to encounter a revival of a middling musical from two decades ago and find the show vastly improved in nearly every respect.”
