The Broadway production of Richard Greenberg’s Take Me Out, which won three 2003 Tony Awards including the award for Best Play, will close on Sunday, January 4 after 27 previews and 356 regular performances.

The show was directed by Joe Mantello and stars Tony winner Denis O’Hare, Daniel Sunjata, and Neal Huff. Scott Pask provided the scenic design, Jess Goldstein designed the costumes, and Kevin Adams designed the lighting. This production was first seen at London’s Donmar Warehouse before transferring Off-Broadway to New York’s Public Theater and then the Walter Kerr Theatre on broadway.

“We are thrilled with the success of Take Me Out,” said producers Carole Shorenstein Hays and Freddy DeMann. “It has been an honor for us to produce Richard’s beautiful play and it has been so gratifying for us to see the play succeed on Broadway. For the thousands of people who have seen Take Me Out and for the thousands more who will see it in its many, many productions around the world, we say ‘Thank you for proving us right: People do want to see good drama, good plays, good stories, on Broadway.'”

In his review of the Public Theater production, TheaterMania’s David Finkle wrote: “If this thoughtful, acerbic, and frequently impassioned work isn’t quite the dramatic equivalent of a home run with the bases loaded, it’s at least a triple that drives in multiple runs and raises the prolific playwright’s batting average to well over .400.”
