It has just been announced that Jasmine Guy has withdrawn from the Manhattan Theatre Club’s Broadway production of Richard Greenberg’s new play The Violet Hour for unspecified “medical reasons.”

Guy’s role of Jessie Brewster will be assumed by her understudy, Robin Miles, who took over for Guy after the intermission during Thursday’s performance when Guy was unable to continue. This is not the first change in the show’s cast prior to its opening; Laura Benanti left the production on October 1 due to “creative differences” and was replaced by Dagmara Dominczyk. However, the show will maintain its previously scheduled opening date of November 6 at the Biltmore Theatre.

“Unfortunately and to my deepest regret, I need to leave the production at this time,” Guy was quoted in a press release issued this afternoon. “I leave a piece of my heart on the stage of the Biltmore.” Lynne Meadow, artistic director of Manhattan Theatre Club, said: “We understand Jasmine’s need to leave the production and wish her all the best.”
