Copacabana Comes to America

The musical Copacabana, created by famed entertainer Barry Manilow, will finally make its way to the U.S. this summer. According to Playbill Online, “the hottest spot north of Havana” will kick off a 40-week national tour beginning June 17, at Pittsburgh’s Civic Light Opera. After a three-week stint, the production will take part in the Dallas Summer Musicals season. Both venues are co-producing this theatrical event that features music by Manilow, with book and lyrics by Manilow, Bruce Sussman and Jack Feldman. Copa… had its premiere in London’s West End and toured the U.K. for over a year. The show includes the title song as well as the songs “Ay, Caramba” and “Sweet Heaven”. Choreography is by Tony Award-winner Wayne Cliento and direction will be by David Warren, who is currently helming The Altruists, the new play by Nicky Silver.
