Gypsy Raises $2,080,000 to Fight AIDS

BC/EFA week, ended successfully with The 11th Annual Gypsy of the Year Competition. The contest consisted of Broadway and Off-Broadway shows vying to see who could raise the most money in support of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA). Rent topped all shows coming in with $161,485.48. Second place went to Annie Get Your Gun totaling $159,196.73. Naked Boys Singing was the big Off-Broadway winner stripping to the tune of $25,053.55. In all, The Great White Way’s donation came to an amazing $2,080,00 surpassing last year’s total of $1,751,078. BC/EFA received more good fortune when Bloomingdale’s By Mail presented them with a check in the amount of $500,000. For the second straight year BC/EFA has received all proceeds from their mail order, Broadway-themed holiday gift collection. Since it’s inception in 1987, BC/EFA has raised over $35 million in the fight against AIDS.
