The Rosetta LeNoire Musical Theatre Academy — the Amas Musical Theatre’s youth company — will present a new production of The Robber Bridegroom, the bawdy Southern musical fairy tale set in 18th century Mississippi, beginning on Friday, May 9.

The show has a book and lyrics by Alfred Uhry (Parade, Driving Miss Daisy, Here’s Where I Belong) and music by Robert Waldman (Here’s Where I Belong, the 2002 Lincoln Center revival of Dinner at Eight).

The original production of The Robber Bridegroom, which debuted at the Harkness Theatre in 1975, featured future Broadway stars Kevin Kline and Patti LuPone and ran for 14 performances. The show reopened at the Biltmore Theatre in 1976 and ran for 145 performances with a new cast headed by Barry Bostwick.

The Amas production is being directed by Christopher Scott, with choreography by Monica Johnson and musical direction by Nathan Matthews. Matt Morrow is designing the set, Ali Turns the costumes, and Aaron Spivey the lights.

The show will be presented at the Hudson Guild Theatre (441 West 26th Street between Ninth and Tenth avenues), May 9-11 and May 16-18. Tickets may be purchased by calling SmartTix at 212-206-1515 or by visiting the website www.smarttix.com.
