American Theatre Wing Announces Spring 2003 "Working in the Theatre" Seminars

The American Theatre Wing has announced that its next star-studded series of “Working in the Theatre” seminars will be held on April 29, April 30, and May 1.

The seminars, moderated by working theater professionals and offered every winter and spring, are offered free to theater students, members of theatrical unions and guilds, and cast members of Broadway and Off-Broadway shows.

The seminars scheduled for the spring session include: A playwright/director/choreographer seminar with Bob Balaban (The Exonerated), Richard Greenberg (Take Me Out), Suheir Hammad (Def Poetry Jam), Luis Perez (Man of La Mancha), Arthur Kopit (Nine), and David Petrarca (A Year With Frog and Toad), moderated by Lloyd Richard, to be held on Tuesday, April 29 from 11am to 1pm; a production seminar with members of the creative team of Urban Cowboy including producers Chase Mishkin and Leonard Soloway, director Lonny Price, book writer Aaron Latham, composer Jason Robert Brown, and publicist Pete Sanders, moderated by Roy Somlyo to be held on Wednesday, April 30 from 11am to 1pm; a design seminar featuring lighting designer Beverly Emmons (Jekyll & Hyde), sound designer David Meschter (Medea), scenic designer David Rockwell (Hairspray), and lighting/projection designer Rui Rita (Secrets Every Smart Traveler Should Know), moderated by Jeffrey Eric Jenkins and to be held on Thursday, May 1 from 11am to 1pm; and a performance seminar featuring Broadway performers Alec Baldwin (Trumbo), Sutton Foster (Thoroughly Modern Millie), Clare Higgins (Vincent in Brixton), Brian Stokes Mitchell (Man of La Mancha), and John Turturro (Life (x) 3), moderated by Pia Lindstrom and to be held on Thursday, May 1 from 2pm to 4pm.

All seminars will be held at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York (365 Fifth Avenue at 34th Street). Tickets will be distributed to reservation holders 45 minutes prior to each seminar. The series is also broadcast six times a week on CUNY-TV (Time Warner channel 75 and RCN channel 106), as well as shown regularly on Channel 36 in Los Angeles.
