The Scones What They’ll Serve: Kenneth Branagh and The Play What I Wrote Cast to Man Ticket Line, March 3

Kenneth Branagh, film star (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Hamlet, Much Ado About Nothing) and director of the upcoming Broadway production of The Play What I Wrote, will join the cast of the show outside the Lyceum Theatre on the morning of Monday, March 3, for a publicity event.

Branagh and cast members Sean Foley, Hamish McColl, and Toby Jones will be serving tea and scones to the intrepid souls who’ll be waiting in line in the expected sub-freezing temperatures for one of the best deals Broadway has seen in years: The first five preview performances of The Play What I Wrote will be priced at $1, $2, $3, $4, and $5, respectively. These discounted tickets will be available only at the box office at the Lyceum Theatre (149 West 45th Street, between Sixth Avenue and Broadway). The box office opens at 10am, with Branagh and company expected around 9:30; there is a limit of six tickets per customer.

Winner of the 2002 Olivier Award, The Play What I Wrote — written by McColl, Foley, and Eddie Braben — arrives in New York after two sold-out engagements in London. The story follows McColl’s attempts to extricate himself from a comedy act and produce his play A Tight Squeeze for the Scarlet Pimple on Broadway; his plan requires the services of a major star, and that role will be played by a different, secret guest star at each performance. Ralph Fiennes, Sir Ian McKellen, Roger Moore, Sting, and Ewan McGregor are among the luminaries who appeared in the production in London.
