Brian Lane Green

Many of Brian Lane Green’s fans know the talented actor/singer from his TV appearances, both prime-time (Matlock, Murder, She Wrote, Highway to Heaven, etc.) and daytime (recurring roles in Days of Our Lives, Another World, and All My Children). But Green is also a respected stage star; his roles on Broadway alone have ranged from the epitome of American boyhood (Huck Finn in Big River) to the ultimate in urban sleaze (street hustler Jojo in The Life).

Now, Green’s acting muscles are getting more of a workout than ever before: He’s taking on the role of Marc Antony in a production of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar running March 1-5 at Stage Center Theater in Oklahoma City.

“The invitation came as a surprise, and I consider it an honor,” Green told TheaterMania just a few days before leaving New York to begin rehearsals in Oklahoma. “Having never performed Shakespeare before, I’m sure this will be quite a challenge.”

If his past theatrical accomplishments are any indication, Green is up for just about any part that might be handed to him; his regional credits include diverse roles in West Side Story, Camelot, The Pirates of Penzance, La Cage aux Folles, 1776, and Pippin. You can bet that his Shakespearean debut has fans buzzing on his website, www.brianlanegreen.com. And the folks in Oklahoma City are thrilled to have him.

“We are excited to be working with a young actor of the caliber of Brian Lane Green,” says Ron Martin, director of Stage Center Theatre. “Shakespeare’s dialogue is written like music, and we have had great success in the past in using actors who, like Brian, have musical theater backgrounds.”

Said Green of his casting: “I wanted a challenge–then the phone rang. Ask and ye shall receive, right? I’m definitely looking forward to Julius Caesar.”
