Featuring music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, and a new book by four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein, Newsies is adapted for the stage from the live-action Disney feature film musical, inspired by the real life "Newsboy Strike of 1899." The new stage version will contain both new songs by the original team of Menken and Feldman as well as many that they wrote for the film, which had a screenplay by Bob Tzudiker & Noni White.
The production runs September 15-October 16, with an opening on September 25, at the Paper Mill Playhouse. Jeff Calhoun will direct, with choreography by Christopher Gattelli.
Revolutionary newsie Jack Kelly is portrayed by Jeremy Jordan while Tony Award nominee John Dossett plays newspaper giant Joseph Pulitzer. Additional newsies are played by Ben Fankhauser as Davey, RJ Fattori and Vincent Agnello sharing the role of Les, Andrew Keenan-Bolger as Crutchie, Tommy Bracco as Spot Conlon, Brendon Stimson as Oscar Delancey, Mike Faist as Morris Delancey, Aaron J. Albano, Ryan Breslin, Kyle Coffman, Max Ehrich, JP Ferreri, Garett Hawe, Corey Hummerston, Evan Kasprzak, Andy Richardson, Scott Shedenhelm and Ryan Steele.
The cast also featurse Mark Aldrich (Seitz), Helen Anker (Medda), John E. Brady (Wiesel), Kevin Carolan (Roosevelt), Julie Foldesi (Ms. Baum), Kara Lindsay (Katherine), Stuart Marland (Snyder), Michael McArthur, Jack Scott, Nick Sullivan (Bunsen), and Laurie Veldheer (Hannah).
