The Carrie Diaries' Austin Butler will perform in Geffen Playhouse's world premiere production of Steven Drukman's Death of the Author, directed by Bart DeLorenzo.

Casting has been announced for the world premiere of Pulitzer Prize nominee Steven Drukman's Death of the Author, opening this May at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles.

Bart DeLorenzo will direct a company featuring Orson Bean (Desperate Housewives), Austin Butler (The Carrie Diaries), David Clayton Rogers (Nashville), and Lyndon Smith (Parenthood). The production will begin performances May 20 in advance of a May 28 opening and run through June 29.

Death of the Author tells the story of a young professor who suspects one of his students of plagiarism — an inquiry that sets off a chain of events that affects the lives of four individuals. The play is described as "a personal battle to decide what is right, what is wrong, and what must be done."

The creative team includes Takeshi Kata (scenic design), Christina Haatainen Jones (costume design), Lap Chi Chu (lighting design), and John Ballinger (sound design).
