Bard SummerScape has announced selections for its 2010 season, to be held at Bard College's campus in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York. The festivities will open on July 8 with a performance by the Trisha Brown Dance Company, and conclude on August 22.

Will Pomerantz will direct Oscar Straus and Leopold Jacobson's operetta The Chocolate Soldier, adapted from George Bernard Shaw's play, Arms and the Man (August 5-15), and conducted by James Bagwell. Theater-related highlights will also include Austro-Hungarian playwright Odon von Horvath's 1937 drama, Judgment Day (July 14-25), about a stationmaster in a small town who causes a fatal plane crash. Caitriona McLaughlin will direct the production.

Two-time Obie winner John Kelly will perform his homage to Joni Mitchell as part of SummerScape's Spiegeltent series, which will also include performances from the Wau Wau Sisters and Bindlestiff Family Cirkus. Nik Quaife will return as the SpiegelMaestro.

The 21st annual Bard Music Festival will carry the theme "Berg and His World" (August 13-22), and feature twelve musical programs dedicated to the Austrian composer. In addition, Bard will present Franz Schreker's opera The Distant Sound (July 30-August 6), directed by Thaddeus Strassberger. Leon Botstein is the music director for the American Symphony Orchestra, which will be in residence throughout SummerScape.

Programming will also include a film series that explores "The Best of G.W. Pabst" (July 15-August 19), featuring films by the influential German expressionist.
