Claudio Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610

The Green Mountain Project (honoring the literal translation of Monteverdi’s name) returns with Claudio Monteverdi’s grand Vespers of 1610, the work that launched this beloved annual event.

The antiphons, responses, motets, hymn and canticle that Monteverdi shaped into the Vespers of 1610 represent the pinnacle of 17th century sacred music, and 28 musicians will perform this masterpiece in an ideal space, the glorious Church of St. Mary the Virgin. Because of the overwhelming audience demand to hear this work, there will be two performances in New York this year.
For this exceptional performance, the Green Mountain Project recreates many details of the work that are often set aside in modern times, including a historically accurate pitch (of 466 Hz.) and original keys for every movement, performed on period instruments with gut strings.

The Green Mountain Project has once again gathered singers and players from around the country, specializing in the music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods.
