About This Venue
The Pearl Theatre Company celebrates its 22nd season of classical repertory performed by a distinguished Resident Acting Company in 2005-2006. Clashes of morality with necessity, of powerful women with their enemies, and of the imprisoned with their captors are a few of the many controversial issues the plays of The Pearl's 05-06 season grapple with. In choosing a season of works by playwrights each of whom questioned traditional values, The Pearl follows its revolutionary impulse to challenge contemporary audiences through the power of the classical plays. By keeping the legacy of classical theatre alive through productions driven by the form and content of the playwright's creation rather than forced concepts, "updating", or decontructions, The Pearl is a vital and unique part of the New York and national theatre scene.
