This Yiddish Extravaganza is a musical and theatrical celebration of the life and work of Yiddish poetess, painter, composer and singer Beyle Schaechter-Gottesman. Just this fall, Gottesman was awarded a 2005 National Heritage Fellowship by the National Endowment for the Arts.
Proceeds from the evening will benefit the Congress for Jewish Culture, a 57-year-old organization dedicated to promoting Yiddish language and culture. The show will examine Gottesman's place in "the golden chain" of Yiddish culture, from her roots in prewar Czernowitz to her present-day creative life in the Bronx. The program, conducted primarily in Yiddish, includes songs and poetry by Gottesman, as well as other new and classic material, including recitations, sketches, and a puppet show. Program subject to change without notice.
Appropriate for all ages.
