There is a special VIP reception at 7:30 PM before the Thursday, May 22nd Show.
Stretching across culture, time, place, and imagination, Naganuma Dance presents UNbridLeD, a collection of lively, provocative works about marriage, gender, memory, and sacrifice. Exposing long-veiled family secrets--the forbidden love of a 1918 Japanese picture bride, the arranged marriage and "bride-burning" of an Indian aunt, an American housewife's ironic plight-- UNbridLeD shatters the notion of idealized wedded bliss. Artistic Director Darcy Naganuma joins forces with Eboni Hogan (2007 Nuyorican Grand Slam Poet) and multimedia designer Linda Brieda to deliver a vibrant, refreshingly kinetic evening. The explosive, international cast includes dancers from Japan, Kenya, Germany, Italy, Saudi Arabia, and the U.S.
