Since the early 90s, and the release of his groundbreaking CD, Spasm, Michael Lowenstern has emerged as not only one of the premiere bass clarinetists in the world, but also as a formidable composer who has taken his own unique style and fused it with looping and computer techniques. In this concert, he premiers the complete cycle of works from his latest CD Ten Children. He is a unique composer with an exceptional live performance. Don't miss this one! Music by Michael Sahl, libretto by Margaret Yard Composer Michael Sahl performs and directs a realization of his new opera, Sally Anne. The libretto, written by Margaret Yard, presents the powerful story of escape from a childhood of horror into a world of the absurd. This open workshop performance is a wonderful opportunity to experience the collaboration between a writer who is also a psychoanalyst and nurse practitioner, and one of New York's most experienced composers as they meld their artistic talents to bring this extraordinary new work to life for the first time.

On the first half of this two-part program will be the beautifully compelling voice of soprano Maria Tegzes accompanied by pianist Geoffrey Burleson and guitarist David Fabris. Scheduled works in this half of the program are by Hanns Eisler/Bertolt Brecht, Jan Swafford, David Rakowski, Max Roach, and Maria Tegzes/Geoffrey Burleson.
The second half of the program will feature the music of composer and pianist Ellen Mandel and singer Todd Almond as they work magic with the poetry of E.E. Cummings.
