MAN underdog presents:
The Temperamentals
The Temperamentals Tickets and Information
Synopsis
MAN underdog presents The Temperamentals, by Jon Marans, directed by Jonathan Silverstein.
"Temperamental" was a code word for "homosexual" in the early 1950s, part of a created language of secret words that gay men used to communicate. In this underground world, danger was always an underlying presence. But with it, a heady, intoxicating secrecy also hung in the air.
The Temperamentals tells the story of two men -- the communist Harry Hay and the young Viennese refugee and designer Rudi Gernreich, weaving together the personal and the political to tell a relatively unknown chapter in gay history. It explores the deepening love between two complex men, while they build the first gay rights organization in the United States pre-Stonewall.

Review: RE:Terrific! by wawrzewski
I saw the first preview of this show in the new, larger theater. I didnt know much about the Mattachine Society and its founders and mission, but after this show, I feel like a big part of history was revealed to me. The show and story are captivating from beginning to end with just the right amount of tension to keep you guessing. The cast is terrific with three of the actors playing multiple parts remarkably well. Bravo to everyone involved.
